พลอย

n. 1. gem, especially a sapphire or an emerald;

v. 2. to follow another's example, to follow, in the same manner, likewise, also, as well, to join in, to follow suit passively.

พลอยเก๊, พลอยหุง (an imitation gem, molten glass);

พลอยฟ้าพลอยฝน (to be involved).

ถ้าเราอยู่ในจำพวกคนคด เราก็จะพลอยเป็นคนคดไปกับเขาด้วย If we are in a company of crooks, we shall become crooks like them (become crooks likewise).

แม้เขาจะมิได้กระทำผิดอะไร เขาก็พลอยถูกจับไปด้วย Though he did not commit any crime, he was also arrested (was arrested as well). ผมกลัวจะพลอยฟ้าพลอยฝนไปด้วย I am afraid of being involved.
